What's the Point?

Okay, so we know how I’ll benefit from this endeavor. I’ll gain experience in the great outdoors that will help me write a better book set in the Adirondacks. But you, my dear reader, may well be asking, “What’s in all this for me?” Hopefully you’ll gain a little knowledge, have a few laughs, and vicariously enjoy a sense of adventure. Think of it as a modern-day Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, where you get to sit comfortably at your computer screen – much like Marlin Perkins watching from a safe distance behind some bushes. I, on the other hand, will go out into the wild, ala Jim Fowler, and do all the heavy lifting in an effort to entertain you.

            Well, on second thought…

Welcome!

Welcome to Lost in the Adirondacks! A blog where I chronicle my efforts to get back to nature – except all that nature scares the heck out of me. For years I've happily kept a safe distance from the great outdoors, content to view the 6 million acres of the Adirondack Park from the comfort of my house or car window. And I was fine with that arrangement until I began writing a mystery set in the Adirondacks. Suddenly I couldn’t help wondering if all these years I’ve been missing something. Something that draws thousands to these mountains and lakes year after year. Something that may go deeper than just vacation spots and souvenirs. Something that speaks to the soul.

So, if you’re looking for a serious site about outdoor life in the Adirondacks, this isn’t for you. (Although, while reading this, you may derive a certain sense of smug superiority in your broken-in hiking boots and North Face gear). And, if you’re looking for a site about people who actually got lost in the Adirondacks, this site isn’t for you either (At least I pray that it won’t be. I really don’t want to get lost out there. I hear there are bears). But if you want to follow my adventures as I push my comfort level and my musings about what it means to live here, I hope you’ll stay tuned.
